Poverty The median household income of the area, $27,000, is well below the median for the city ($32,216) and for the state ($43,791).

Undereducation Fully 31% of area residents over the age of 25 do not have a high school diploma—double the state’s rate of 15%.

Unemployment The unemployment rate in the area is almost 13%,well above the 9% rate for the city and more than double the state’s rate of 5%.
